FENSA Newsletter Fulfilment: A Polybag Mailing Case Study

FENSA is the market-leading Competent Person Scheme for the glazing industry, and The Direct Mail Company regularly fulfils their ‘FENSA NOW’ newsletters, printing, enclosing and posting them to member companies to share the latest industry news. This case study explains how we print, personalise and polybag each mailing – and how we deliver substantial postage savings on a format that would otherwise cost over 90p per mail piece.

The Fulfilment Brief

Each FENSA NOW mailing consists of one A4 double-sided newsletter and one A4 cover sheet, enclosed in a clear polybag and posted to member companies. The newsletters we printed were fantastic-looking double-sided A4 pieces on 170gsm silk, and we also printed a cover sheet carrying the personalisation of each recipient’s address and member number.

Why a Clear Polybag?

To ensure recipients instantly know the mailing is their FENSA newsletter and not a circular, the two inserts were enclosed in a clear oversize A4 polybag. We also positioned the contents strategically: one side of the A4 newsletter carried the FENSA branding, and the cover sheet carried the FENSA logo, meaning that whichever way the mailing landed after passing through the letterbox, the FENSA logo was showing. The member company sees at a glance exactly what has arrived.

The Outcome: Substantial Postage Savings

Polybag jobs like these are classed as unsorted large letters, which cost over 90p per mail piece at standard rates – so we offered substantial savings here, as we always do on postage. FENSA’s members receive a professional, instantly recognisable newsletter, and FENSA pays significantly less than standard large letter rates to send it.

Newsletter and Polybag Mailing: Frequently Asked Questions

What is a polybag mailing?

A polybag mailing encloses printed items in a clear plastic bag rather than an envelope, so the recipient can see the branded contents immediately – ideal for newsletters and member communications.

Why use a clear polybag instead of an envelope?

A clear polybag shows the branding on arrival, so recipients instantly recognise the mailing as a trusted communication rather than a circular, which protects open rates.

Can newsletter mailings be personalised?

Yes. Each FENSA mailing included a cover sheet personalised with the recipient’s address and member number, printed and enclosed as part of one fulfilment run.

How much does a polybag newsletter mailing cost to post?

Polybag mailings are classed as unsorted large letters, normally costing over 90p per piece – but a mailing house with bulk postage deals can reduce this substantially.
